How the calculation works
The tool reads your date of birth from a standard HTML date input, which normalises the value to ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD) at local midnight. To compute the difference, it subtracts the years, months, and days independently and then rebalances: if the day-of-month goes negative, it borrows the number of days in the previous month; if months go negative after that, it borrows twelve and drops a year. Total days, weeks, and hours are computed from the raw millisecond difference divided by 86,400,000, 604,800,000, and 3,600,000 respectively. The "days to next birthday" number anchors your birthday's month and day to the current year and rolls forward to the next year if it has already passed. Everything runs in the browser tab you have open — there is no network request, no cookie, and no log of the date you entered.

For people born on February 29, the day-of-year comparison depends on the browser: Chromium-based browsers roll a February 29 birthday to February 28 on non-leap years, while some other engines roll it to March 1 — the year-count is identical either way. How is age calculated in years, months, and days?+
The tool subtracts your date of birth from today's date and rebalances the result: if the day component is negative, it borrows the number of days in the previous calendar month; if the month component is then negative, it borrows twelve months and decreases the year count. This mirrors how a passport office or hospital admissions form would calculate age.
Why doesn't the total-days figure equal my age × 365?+
Because the average Gregorian year is 365.2425 days, not 365. Over 40 years that difference adds up to roughly ten leap days. The tool counts real elapsed days between two dates, so it will always be more accurate than any year × 365 shortcut.
Is my date of birth stored or sent to a server?+
No. The date never leaves your browser tab. There is no network request, no cookie set, and no analytics event that includes the value. Refresh the page and the input is empty again.
How does the calculator treat a February 29 birthday?+
Year count is identical either way — someone born on 29 Feb 2000 is 26 in 2026. For the "days to next birthday" number in non-leap years, most browsers roll the anniversary to February 28. If you prefer March 1, adjust the count by one day.
Can I calculate my age at a past date instead of today?+
Not with this tool. It always uses today's date. For retrospective calculations — for example, your age at the time of a photo — use a date-difference calculator that takes two arbitrary dates.
Why does the tool use my computer's clock instead of a global server clock?+
Because keeping the calculation in your browser is the whole point: no upload, no logging, and no time-zone guesswork about where you are. If your device clock is wrong, the calculation will be off; check your OS clock settings if the result surprises you.
